The Road Safety project "YOUR ideas, YOUR initiatives"

The Road Safety project "YOUR ideas, YOUR initiativesinvolves many schools from selected countries around the world that are committed to achieving changes in their community with regards to Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility.

The United Nations has declared 2011-2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety, in order to contribute to a decrease in numbers of road deaths worldwide. The “YOUR ideas, YOUR initiatives International Challenge” has been launched by Renault. The company officially supports the UN Decade for Action in Road Safety, and has implemented an international program on road safety in 35 countries since 2000.

Teachers are invited to join this international initiative with their students aged 15-17 years, and to develop a participatory classroom project. Our aim is to enable and encourage young people to contribute effectively to some of the major challenges facing our societies. This exciting, interactive project is designed to inspire students to identify some key road safety issues in their own community and then attempt through collective actions to solve or improve their situation in order to make our roads safer and therefore improve all our lives.

The themes of the actions could be for example: Road safety, risky behaviors, responsible behaviors, actors of prevention, circular economy, the future of the car, the future of the cities, or street safety for all. All the last year’s participations you will find here: http://www.your-initiatives.safety-mobility-for-all.com/.

In order to participate, students must create and implement a road safety initiative and / or sustainable mobility in their own environment. Below you will find examples of initiatives that can be undertaken although any other idea is a welcome initiative.

- Development of a campaign for the creation of a pedestrian at the exit of the school.
- Designing of a game about the risks involved in traffic accidents.
- Organization of an exhibition of pictures or posters on the mobility of the future or the importance of helmet use.
- Design of an information campaign on youth accidents
- Creation of an audiovisual on moped misuse.
- Creating comics on various aspects of road safety.

The top three participating schools will receive a prize valuated in 900 euros; the seven following finalists will receive a cash prize of 200 euros. What’s more, each and every student that takes part will receive a certificate of participation in this project.

complete set of pedagogical material is available on line in order to help teacher to develop the program in their classroom. Since these resources are available in English, French, and Spanish, a suggestion is, for instance, to develop the project within these subjects. A helpdesk is also available by email or via Skype to ensure the best quality of your participation.

For more information about the project you can take a look at the links to the project guidelines and pedagogical materials. (http://www.safety-mobility-for-all.com/resource-center/).

If teachers/schools want to participate, it would be great if they could send us their feedback about their possible participation until 6thDecember. To do so, they will answer this email providing the following data:
School Name:
Address:
Phone contact:
Contact Person (name, email)

I will then send more information about this year’s edition and also the participation form.
